AAPECS Atlantic Eye Care provides LASIK co-management services. This means we’ll assist you in preparing for the procedure and help you recover afterward. Our postoperative care also includes letting you know what to expect once the surgery is done.
Your eye doctor discusses some of the things you should keep in mind after LASIK:
Immediately After the Procedure
Once the anesthesia wears off, your eyes may itch, sting or feel like they’re burning. A sensation that something’s stuck is also common. These are signs of dry eyes, which often happens post-LASIK. You may instinctively want to rub your eyes, but avoid doing so. Otherwise, you may dislodge the corneal flap, requiring treatment.
Blurry or hazy vision may happen after having LASIK. You may also notice an increased sensitivity to glare or light. You should visit your eye care center a day or two after the procedure, so we can assess if your cornea is healing properly. We’ll also evaluate improvements in your vision. If you experience severe eye pain or your symptoms worsen within the day post-surgery, seek help immediately. Consider taking a few days off from work until your symptoms subside.
Days After LASIK
Although recovery time for LASIK is relatively short, you should avoid physical activities, especially strenuous ones, for a few days. We also recommend using sunglasses for at least a week every time you’re outdoors. Avoid wearing makeup, rubbing your eyes and engaging in watersports. Rest your eyes regularly, and read in moderation.
Months After LASIK
Your visual acuity may fluctuate for up to six months after LASIK. That said, you can expect a more stable vision after. Remember your doctor’s instructions to prevent eye infections and other postoperative complications. You should also have regular eye exams, so we can track changes in your vision. Doing so gives us an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of the surgery and provide treatment for any problems.
